Infinity Necklace and Earrings

I love using symbolism in jewelry making. Having symbols in the jewelry you make can make that gift you are giving, the piece you are wearing, or the item you are selling all that much more special. Perhaps attaching a little card with the meaning of the symbol, or why you are gifting that symbol can bring a lot of meaning to a piece that someone wears. This is when jewelry becomes more than just accessories. It becomes something that means something to the wearer, or perhaps reminds them of something important to them.

INAEI was of course, really drawn to the new infinity symbol links by TierraCast. They are so pretty, and one of my favorite symbols. The Infinity Symbol, sometimes called the lemniscate  is actually the mathematical symbol representing the concept of infinity.

Below is the first of I’m sure many projects I will create with these lovely pieces.

Necklace Materials:

Necklace Directions:

  1. Cut approximately two feet of 24 gauge wire. Wrap the wire around the center of an infinity link a few times until it feels like you have a solid start. Slide a crystal onto the wire. Slide the crystal down onto the infinity link, and while you hold that crystal in place, wrap the wire tightly around the link, one time. Adding another crystal and holding it snug in it’s place next to the first one, again wrap the wire around the link again. Repeat this, rotating the colors of crystals used until you have covered the infinity link. I ended up using five of each color of crystal listed above for a total of 20 crystals. After you place the last crystal, simply wrap the wire around the link a couple of times to end it. Snip the end, and use a chain nose pliers to tuck the wire in it’s place.
  2. Cut another length of wire, approximately one foot long. Again, start by wrapping it around the center of another infinity link a few times until you feel like you have a solid start. Add a topaz, and a Denim Blue crystal to the wire and slide them down to the link. Holding these 2 crystals in place on top of the infinity link, wrap the wire around the center again a couple of times to secure it. Add a fuchsia lemon and peridot champagne crystals to the wire and slide them down to the link. Holding them in place on top of the link, again wrap the wire around the center of the link several times until you feel the crystals and wire are secure. Tuck the end of your wire in with a chain nose pliers. Note: this can be kind of a free form wrapping. You could cut a longer piece of wire and wrap more times, giving a slightly different look. You can twist the wire together on the back side of the link, trim it, then tuck that in if that feels more secure to you. Don’t let the wire working intimidate you….Working with wire this way can always be tweaked to what works best for you. as long as it is secure on the piece, and you are happy with how it looks, that is all that matters! Don’t sweat making it look perfect!
  3. Cut two lengths of chain. One that is seven inches in length. The other nine inches in length.
  4. Take your 11mm large rope jump-rings and close them properly so you have two complete/closed rings.
  5. Use a 9mm jump-ring to connect your infinity link with 20 crystals on it to one of the 11mm closed jump-rings. This is your pendant. From that 11mm closed jump-ring, use a 9mm jump-ring to attach your nine inch length of chain, and another 9mm jump-ring to the other infinity link with four crystals on.
  6. Using another 9mm jump-ring, attach a closed ring to the other end of the infinity link with four crystals on. Then, using another 9mm jump-ring, attach that closed ring to your seven inch length of chain.
  7. Finally, use your remaining two jump rings to attach the toggle clasp to the ends of the necklace.

Presto! You are done!

Variations:

  • The completed necklace measures approximately 20” long. If you would like it longer or shorter, simply adjust the length of chain you are cutting.
  • Perhaps you are not fond of the asymmetrical look, and only want to use the pendant in the center and skip the side link? Perhaps you want a 3rd infinity link to make it a symmetrical design?
  • This would also be a nice & simple design without the crystals!
  • Antique silver not your finish? Try this in another finish!
  • Mix up the colors of crystals! Use what colors you like, or what you have on hand!
  • Try using other types of 4mm beads!

Earring Materials:

Earrings Directions:

  1. See step #2 in the necklace directions on how to wire wrap the crystals around the infinity link. Repeat this with both links.
  2. Connect a 9mm jump-ring to one end of the infinity link. Repeat with the other one.
  3. Use a small oval jumpring to connect the earwire to the 9mm jumpring on the infinity link.

 That’s it!

 Variations:

  • I am really fond of these infinity links, and I think they would make a great simple earring without the crystals as well!
  • Mix up the colors of crystals! Use what colors you like, or what you have on hand!
  • Try using other types of 4mm beads!

Happy Creating!
